Daily Sports Product Design

INTRODUCTION

The Online Daily Sports Betting App resources I started with were a startup kit that included:

  • The project brief analysis

  • User research highlights

  • A persona

  • Implementing the new features requested by stakeholders

THE PROBLEM

Online betting experiences for customers want a better solution on researching and a quicker way to place a bet on the app. The research shows that the current application doesn’t offer and better a quicker way to review all team and individual players and often leave frustrated without fully experiencing the product. Along with a better visual preference. The current model has. a very bland UI and interaction can improve.

Design Constraints to consider:

  • Focus on improving the a quicker way to place a bet, edit the bet and remove the bet. Too money steps on current model

  • Improving the all around visual experience.

  • Adding live scoring section
  • Seven week timeframe

High Fidelity Prototype

Summary

At the beginning of this project, our objective was to create a new interaction and UI that would help bettors quickly find information more quickly and place a bet. Also introducing a refer a friend in the navigation. Homepage would display live scores for any sports game available on the app. Adding a ability the add a favorite section for teams or individual players. A points systems where a customer can accrue points to redeem for cash. (something similar to Amazon / Southwest Airlines)

The feedback we received from users was enthusiastic and they saw value for a product like this in their betting process

DESIGN PROCESS

Here’s a little interesting nugget about the design process for this project – A huge shift was made while in the diamond 2 stage. It should be noted that the arrow that is going from phase 3 (develop) to phase 4 (finalize) of the design process ended up going into a loop for a while. It was during this in-between phase where I actually went back and came up with some new ideas for the design, and placing multiply bets. During this refinement process while I was prototyping in the finalize phase, almost ready to dive into validation, I shifted into an ultra modern aesthetic. This forced me to rethink some concepts and also redo the style guide during iterations, which helped me determine which screens needed to be kept, versus which ones could be torn down and rebuilt from scratch, especially through the checkout process.

USER RESEARCH

METHODOLOGIES

  • User Interviews
  • Secondary Research
  • Competitive Analysis

From the very beginning, we felt that the app played an important role in the online sports betting process and wanted to validate our hypothesis. User interviews enabled us to specifically address this issue and identify additional pain points.

Through secondary research, I wanted to gain a broader scope of the industry and study potential market opportunities. Since I was not a sports bettor, I needed to acquire general knowledge of the betting process to better understand our audience.

A competitive analysis helped us assess what kind of aggregated solutions already existed within the U.S. market and where there were opportunities for innovation.

PERSONA

Who was I designing this product for

The persons map helped me develop two user types to see how they’re using the current app. Use their feedback on improvements and wishlist that would help me guide my decisions throughout the design process. Simon is a daily sports gambler that has a deep passion for sports and has been betting on his favorite sport teams and players since he was in college. Chis represents a casual bettor who has been bettings on sports off and on for about two years since it’s been legal in the state he lives in. He loves analyzing the data before he places a bet. These two personas were created as different behavior models as I found that a spectrum of users could benefit from a solution.

ARCHITECTURE

METHODOLOGIES
  • User Flows
  • Low Fidelity Testing
  • Wireframing
  • Wireflows

Since we caught important navigational and architectural issues in the earlier stages of testing from the original application.I was curious to see how the high-fidelity prototype would perform. My goal was to conduct testing using the User Testing software with different participants for each round.
